The socio-emotional and linguistic development of preterm children

Preterm birth represents potentially a risk factor for children’s development. However, there are individual differences too and a significant variability among developmental pathways of children born preterm.

In our research projects we investigate the preterm as a complex phenomenon, taking into account how variables related to the child and to her surrounding environment interacts in predicting children’s socio-emotional and linguistic development.

We specifically focus on mothers and infants, following up children from birth up to 5 years of age, and investigating multiple variables including the quality of children’s developmental and maternal wellbeing and adjustment
